Research Professional (position filled)

Seeking Candidates to Save The Planet!

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) create green house gases (GHG) in many countries worldwide because of their high energy demand. A recent research from Global Action Plan in United Kingdom shows that the ICT sector is the one showing the most rapid increase in carbon dioxide emissions in the world. Gardner Research shows the ICT industry alone is responsible for the same GHG emissions as the airline industry with a 2%-3% of global CO2 emissions. Indeed, computers and networking equipment consume enormous amounts of electricity and in many countries the electricity is produced by burning coal thus creating indirect emissions.

The GreenStar Network (GSN) project, a consortium of large companies, Canadian universities as well as some international partners will develop different technologies with a small carbon footprint like networks powered by renewable energy sources such as solar or wind, virtualization tools, evaluation protocols as well as green house gas emissions and techniques to instruments and measure these produced emissions.
